Doorway of Dr. Lambert's house, formerly Rydel Mount Ladies Boarding School. Reverend Thomas R. Lambert, D.D., was chaplain in the Navy Yard for almost 22 years before he served as rector of St. John's Church, Charlestown, from 1856-84. He must have lived in this house for some 35 years, during which time he was a delegate to many triennial conventions of the Episcopal Church, and for many years was chairman of the standing committee of the Diocese of Mass., and was also a 33rd degree mason. He entertained many distinguished visitors from abroad, and several bishops of the Episcopal Church during the time of the general convention in Boston in 1877. He is said to have kept his house and its lawns and extensive grounds behind it with stable and carriage sheds, fruit and vegetable gardens, and well fenced fields for cows and horses, in excellent order. St. John's Church used to hold picnics on the property, as is remembered by persons still living.
