(Apr. 18, 2012) Dr. Robert Ballard, left, Ocean explorer and director of the Center for Ocean Exploration at the University of Rhode Island's graduate school of oceanography, discusses current projects with Rear Adm. Matthew Klunder, chief of Naval Research, at the Office of Naval Research (ONR). Ballard is known for his exploration of the wreck of the RMS Titanic. He began his relationship with ONR as a naval reserve officer assigned as scientific liaison to ONR's branch office in Boston and assignment to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
