Significance: Stewart house was an example of residential architecture whose square form and hip roof have been repeated many times on the townsite largely among structures moved from farmsteads to town. Stewart house built 1909 with help of Jerry Scruggs. Stewart left circa 1914. Goins lived in it until late 20's. Residents after that included Jerry Scruggs, Dr. Wilson, Elizabeth Alexander, and Adele Griffie who taught piano lessons within. The house is now a ruin, probably due to construction of Robinson house. Stewart house was sited on a high point ridge which runs along the west part of town 7' above grade of new house; appears owner will demolish old house and grade site. The Dr. Stewart House was considered one of the finest homes in Nicodemus, in the 1920s.
