Elk (Cervus canadensis), Capulin Volcano National Monument, 2016.
Summary
This large species of deer is one of the largest of all North American mammals. Reaching up to 10 feet long and 1000 lbs in weight, you're most-likely to spot them in forest or forest-edge habitat feeding on grasses, leaves and bark. Like many other deer species, elk migrate in spring and fall, so are found at Capulin Volcano NM only part of the year.
