Empire State Marine of the Week, 18 March

MEDITERRANEAN SEA (March 19, 2018) U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Shannon Thompson, a hospital corpsman assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 26, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit(MEU) receives the Empire State Marine of the Week award from U.S. Navy Capt. Todd Vandegrift, captain of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21) March 19, 2018. Thompson has lead and instructed multiple Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) courses aboard the ship increasing medical awareness and combat readiness while deployed to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
