description

Summary

Significance: Estate Hammer Farm is recorded as early as the 1720s. It was under cultivation before 1733. Its sugar factory site predates 1780. The windmill was constructed sometime between 1800 and 1833, probably about 1820, by an unknown builder. The mill's unusual feature, the vaulted basement story, has parallels in the mills of Diamond Keturah & Two Brothers, both of St. Croix.
Survey number: HABS VI-75
Building/structure dates: ca. 1820 Initial Construction

This collection as well as all massive collections on Picryl.com required two steps: First, we picked a manually curated set to train AI vision to recognize windmills, and after that, we run image recognition through all 25M+ images in our database. All media in the collection is in the public domain. There is no limitation on the dataset usage - educational, scientific, or commercial.
