Eucalyptus [Eucalyptus globulus] - National Parks Gallery
Summary
Common name: Eucalyptus
Scientific name:Eucalyptus [Eucalyptus globulus]
Origin: Australia, extending to Phillipines
Uses: A mature tree can reach up to 200ft, providing shade and windbreaks. The leaves are very aromatic. However, the shedding bark and leaves contribute to fire hazards and the trees also crowd out native plants.
Eucalyptus was brought to California in the early 19th century for timber plantations, unfortunately, the trees were not suited for this use.
