Photograph of the Doheny residence, Chester Place, Los Angeles, ca.1900-1909. Looking across the sidewalk and across several well-groomed front lawns (including the Doheny's lawn) toward the front of the large mansion. Valves jut above the surface of each lawn. Palm trees and their fronds can be seen at right. A hexagonal pointed turret dominates the front aspect. The cornices and the roof are highly decorative. Further down the sidewalk, a man stands slouching with his hands in his pockets.
