The monument, which is on display at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs, was dedicated on the 150th anniversary of the formation of the original 10th Cavalry Regiment, a segregated African American unit of cavalrymen who earned the Buffalo Soldier nickname from the Cheyenne warriors they fought while defending frontier settlers following the Civil War.
