Paul Wolff was a German photographer born in Hannover on 29 July 1887. He is considered one of the most important photographers of the early 20th century and is known for his work in architectural and industrial photography. Wolff studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Hanover before turning to photography. He worked as a freelance photographer in Berlin from 1919 to 1933 and was a member of the Berliner Photographenvereinigung. Wolff's photographs are characterised by their clarity, precision and attention to detail. He was a master of composition and lighting and used his technical expertise to create images that were both aesthetically pleasing and informative. Wolff's work covered a wide range of subjects, including architecture, industry, technology and landscape. He was particularly interested in the new modernist architecture of the 1920s and 1930s and photographed many of the iconic buildings of the period. In addition to his commercial work, Wolff was also a keen amateur photographer and took many photographs of his family, friends and travels. He died in Berlin on 12 September 1951.
