Girolamo Macchietti, Pala Lioni

Girolamo Macchietti was an Italian painter and architect who lived during the Renaissance. He was born in Florence, Italy, between 1535 and 1541 and died there in 1592. Macchietti is known for his work in the Mannerist style, characterised by exaggerated poses, elongated figures and complex compositions. Macchietti studied under the famous Florentine painter and architect Giorgio Vasari. He worked closely with Vasari on the decoration of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, where he painted frescoes in the Sala dei Gigli (Hall of Lilies). Macchietti also worked as an architect, designing buildings such as the Palazzo degli Uffizi in Florence. He was a member of the Accademia del Disegno, a prestigious art academy in Florence, and was highly respected by his peers. Some of Macchietti's most notable works include the frescoes in the Chapel of San Lorenzo in the Basilica di San Lorenzo in Florence and the painting "The Death of Lucretia" in the Uffizi Gallery. His works are characterised by bold colours, intricate details and dramatic compositions.
