description

Summary

Sometimes confused for chipmunks because of similar coloration, golden-mantled ground squirrels do actually share a few similar habits with the chipmunk. Like chipmunks, they carry food in their cheek pouches and store food in burrows; however, unlike chipmunks, golden-mantled ground squirrels hibernate. The smart golden-mantled ground squirrel stores food is its burrow to eat upon waking in the spring.
