Gothic style institutional building, Dublin City, Co. Dublin
Summary
This building looks quite new. The catalogue says Dublin City and it does look familiar to me, but I have the distinct impression that something is missing. The chimney "sweeper" has had his way with this one too. ..Sharon.corbet ( /photos/129555378@N07/ ) was quick to identify the location as the 1870s Synod Hall at the corner of High Street in Dublin. This stereo pair was captured prior to the construction of the distinctive arched footbridge ( https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.3428864,-6.2715098,3a,75y,329.8h,91.16t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sBUAMAHJh7QKiPRU2BW2yYw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en ) which spans Winetavern Street and the building to Christ Church Cathedral. O Mac ( /photos/91549360@N03/ ) suggests a date range of c.1875. (The Synod Hall was built between 1871 and 1875. The arch perhaps added slightly later. But still likely during the Christ Church renovations. Which completed in 1878)....Photographers: Frederick Holland Mares, James Simonton..Contributor: John Fortune Lawrence..Collection: Stereo Pairs Photograph Collection ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Collection/vtls000034077 ) ..Date: 1860-1883 (likely 1871-1878)..NLI Ref: STP_1967 ( vtls000565284 )
