Summary

This week we are pleased to offer a bonus #MissingintheCopperCountry ! Last week we featured the Grand Theater. Behind the Grand in that photo was a two-story frame structure. That building has a connection to today's post about Keckonen Hardware.
Keckonen's was first located in this building at 440 5th Street, a frame structure which is still standing today. Although the building was later modified to include a full third story, it's the same place where Oscar Keckonen started in business in 1898. He also owned two warehouses on the Copper Range Railroad where his stock of larger goods was stored. In addition to owning the hardware store, Keckonen, a Finnish immigrant, also served as a local elected government official in a number of different positions. He had a large family and was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Knights of the Modern Maccabees, and the Modern Woodmen.
