description

Summary

Big Bend National Park has more bird species than any other national park. The large great blue heron is usually found near shores of open water and in wetlands. With a wingspan of 66-79 inches and a height of 45-54 inches, it is the largest North American heron. In contrast, the snowy egret is a very small white heron. This egret is easily identified by its long black legs with yellow feet as well as its slim black bill. Also look for the area in front of the eyes to be yellow normally but red during breeding season.
