Summary
Breeding great blue herons gather in colonies or heronries to build stick nests high off the ground. Known for its dagger-like bill, slow walk while stalking prey and a conspicuous S-shaped curl in its neck, this species is the largest of the North American herons. This great blue heron didn't fly south for winter.
