Green frog (Rana clamitans), Mississippi National River & Recreation Area, 2015.
Summary
Distinguish males from females by the size of the tympanum: in males, the tympanum is twice the diameter of the eye whereas in females the tympanum is about the same size as the eye. Males also have bright yellow throats. This common species will attempt to eat any mouth-sized animal it can capture: insects, spiders, fish, crayfish, shrimp, frogs, tadpoles, small snakes and even birds!
