Guard presence on border deters threats
Summary
Army Maj. Gen. Peter Aylward, special assistant to the Chief, National Guard Bureau, center, speaks with Arizona Army National Guard soldiers near Nogales, Ariz., while visitng troops serving along the southwest border in support of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents, Sept. 13. More than 1,200 National Guard soldiers and airmen are to be sent to the border and will be providing administrative, logistical, engineering and other support to CBP agents.
