GULF OF ADEN (July 18, 2015) U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Zachary Cox chambers a round into his M9 Beretta pistol during a weapons-switching drill aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23). Cox is a machine gunner with Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. BLT 3/1 is the ground combat element of the 15th MEU and, embarked aboard the ships of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group, is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
