description

Summary

From the far North West we are propelled to the South East to view the good ship SS Fastnet. Mr Poole was a great man for photographing sea going vessels, the date range here is made for “narrowing” though we have found in the past that these ships can have very long lives themselves. ..And so it was that BeachcomberAustralia ( /photos/beachcomberaustralia/ ) was able to narrow our 50 year range to just 5. (On the basis that the SS Fastnet had been the SS Monaleen prior to 1918, and was known as SS St Abbs Head after 1923. Putting us firmly in the "1920 plus or minus a few years" range...)..Photographer: A. H. Poole..Collection: Poole Photographic Studio, Waterford ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Search/Results?lookfor=A.H.+Poole&type=Author&sort=title&view=grid ) ..Date: Catalogue range c.1901-1954. Likely c.1918-1923 (steamer sailing under name "Fastnet")..NLI Ref: POOLEWP 0895 ( vtls000590949 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
