Hero's autograph - A group of people standing around a table

description

Summary

Emily Wilson, 9, daughter of U.S. Army Col. Gayla Wilson (next to her), gets a smile and an autograph from Bataan Death March survivor Robert Rosendahl, of Springfield, Mo., during an in-processing event for the Bataan Memorial Death March at the White Sands Missile Range, N.M., March 19, 2016. Rosendahl survived the notorious Bataan Death March after fighting for more than three months in the Philippines. He then survived Japanese prisoner of war camps for three and a half years. The first six months were in the Philippines, where he saw hundreds of prisoners die daily from malaria, dysentery and malnutrition. He was later taken to Manchuria, China, and spent the remainder of his internment there. This year 11 survivors are attending the memorial march - several of them seen here at the table with Rosendahl. Participants lined up for hours to meet them. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt.
