John Robinson preached in this same GainsboroughChurch and assembled his little flock in the old Guildhall;that is, when they were not driven into cellar and hay loftto escape the searching eye of the informer ever on handto gain lucre and fame by jailing his fellows. John Robinsons birthplace was most probably at Stur-ton-le-Steeple in Nottingham in 1576. It is certain thathis childhood was spent there. His bones rest in Leyden,where he died. The uniquely splendid John Robinsonchrysanthemum specially grown for the Tercentenary Pil-grim celebration in Leyden, August 31, 1920, and presented THE SEPARATISTS IN ENGLAND 115
