Holyoke is a city in Hampden County, Massachusetts, United States. It is located on the Connecticut River and is considered to be part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1848 as a planned industrial community and was named after Elizur Holyoke, who was an early leader in the area. Holyoke is known for its historic architecture and its role in the American Industrial Revolution. The city was once home to a thriving paper industry and was also a major center for textile production.
