Significance: The central span is an example of a patented double-leaf Strauss underneath counterweight bascule bridge. The Strauss Bascule Bridge Company was one of the most important bridge building firms in the United States during the early 20th century. The contractors, Puget Sound Bridge and Dredging Company, was a significant engineering and construction firm in the Northwest. The bridge has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
