Without good structural formationstrength will not be found, and even with it, all the desirablequalities should not be expected. 24 HORSES, SADDLES AND BRIDLES The power of a horse increases with his size, provided the rela-tive proportion of the parts and the general compactness aremaintained. This, however, is rarely the case. There is acertain size beyond which the parts do not seem to grow in dueproportion to each other. Very large horses are seldom fit forsaddle purposes; on the contrary ponies are often great weightcarriers. There are some relations between parts of the horse which it iswell to consider as an aid in training the eye. In this way it maybe decided at a glance if a horse approaches the average formaccepted as most suitable for service.
