Albert Parker Niblack was born on July 25, 1859 in Indiana. In 1885, he joined the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey and became a member of the Alaska Survey Team. While a part of this team, Niblack traveled around Alaska and photographed the native villages of Kasa-an and Chasina. Niblack held many posts during his tenure with the U.S. Navy and collected textiles during his travels. His textile collection was donated to the Indiana Museum of Art in 1933 after his death in 1929.
