“I had a friend of the family that was in the Submarine Force, so I knew a little about it going in. He would talk to me about all the cool things he got to do while he was in so when I got to MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) there was one submarine job available, and I thought I wanted to be able to do those cool things as well. Even though I knew about the Submarine Force, I originally wanted to join the aviation community but when they offered the submarine position something called me to it,” said Logistics Specialist Submarines 3rd Class Preston Piper, a native of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, and Sailor assigned to USS Santa Fe SSN 763. “One of the things that I enjoy most being on the boat is standing watch on the sail and seeing a sunset.
