Ashok Yadav, a pediatrician with the Medical Treatment Facility aboard the U.S. Military Sealift Command (MSC) hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19), checks a young girls heart beat at RUSD Simeulue Hospital, while the ship provides humanitarian and civic assistance to distribute Project Handclasp items during a Medical and Dental Civic Action Project (MEDENCAP) during the ships humanitarian assistance visit. Project Handclasp accepts and transports educational, humanitarian and goodwill material overseas on a space-available basis in U.S. Navy ships and distributed directly to needy recipients by U.S. service personnel stationed in overseas areas or embarked in U.S. Navy ships, which visit these areas. The Mercy is in the third month of a scheduled five-month deployment to host nations in the Pacific Islands, and South and Southeast Asia.
