description

Summary

Significance: The J.M. Gross Bank Barn is a rare, well-preserved example of a small, mid-to-late nineteenth-century, tri-level bank barn. Built during the height of agricultural reform, it features many elements of the "ideal" barn. This well-built structure, which followed the standard format for a tri-level barn, provided areas for a variety of functions: storage, a stable, a separate threshing area, as well as two corn cribs in the bridge house.
