JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- A U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II aircraft departs the runway May 9, 2017, in support of Exercise Northern Edge 2017. The F-35B is heading to the Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex where they practice joint interoperability. Northern Edge is Alaska’s largest and premier joint training exercise designed to practice operations, techniques and procedures, as well as enhance interoperability among the services. Thousands of participants from all the services—Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guard personnel from active duty, Reserve and National Guard units—are involved. The Marines in the aircraft are with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121, Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt.
