Arthur Henri Poole - June 18, 1910
Summary
Passengers on board the SS Copeland. While sailing from Glasgow to Cork in December 1917, this ship was torpedoed and sank off Tuskar Rock with the loss of 12 crew...Had wondered if the moustached captain (id-ed by rolfiecar as Capt. McLaughlin) holding the lifebelt is the same man depicted in this 1898 sketch ( uofglibrary/4540870580/ ) by Ernest Arthur Binstead in the University of Glasgow Library's Photostream. However, RETRO STU pointed out that sleeve insignia suggest that the man holding the lifebuoy was "a Commander (a rank below the level of Captain) and the man to his left could be his second in command, the ship's Lieutenant."..Date: 18 June 1910..NLI Ref.: P_WP_2038 ( P_WP_2038 )
