Kettell house - Charleston, Boston Mass.

description

Summary

Kettell house. Built in 1790, by Thomas Russell on property bought in 1790 from Samuel Dowse. The building was intended to be an academy, and for many years was used by the Russell Academy of Charlestown. About 1810, it was altered into a double house, one-half of which was occupied by Judge Samuel Dana, whose son James was born here and later became mayor of Charlestown. Nathan Adams bought the estate, and resided here in 1816-30, after which his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George A. Kettell, lived here for many years.
