Lance Cpl. Jesus Villafrancacardenasmartinez, a turret gunner with 1st Section, 2nd Platoon, Company C, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, of Brownsville, Texas, stands in a turret during a mounted patrol, May 20. Patrols such as this are common for Company C and often include communication with local Afghans, as well as observation and security posts. Company C Marines also provide security for Patrol Base Boldac and the meetings between coalition forces and local Afghans held there. In addition, the Company C Marines conduct security operations on Camp Leatherneck. They rotate security tasks with the other platoons in their company.
