Lance Cpl. Steven Lopez’s path to military service is rooted in his Brooklyn upbringing. It’s little wonder the USS New York feels like home. Lopez, 23-year-old native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and intelligence specialist with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., joined the Marine Corps to honor his family and also to honor those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
