Mount Rainier national park - Larkspur & Saxifrage

description

Summary

Just like people, some wildflowers are shy while others are flashy. Rusty saxifrage (Saxifraga ferruginea) has tiny, white, five-petaled flowers, so humble that only three of those petals are decorated with two yellow spots each. Rockslide Larkspur (Delphinium glareosum) in contrast dares you to miss it, with dark blue-purple flowers that shout out against the green moss of the forest floor. Both flower species are blooming in this photo, coexisting despite their different approaches.
