Robert French - Lawn, Castlebar, Co. Mayo
Summary
A lawn with a DesRes in Castlebar would always be a most attractive proposition and this fine house is no exception! I seem to remember a previous shot from Castlebar with an open area/square in the town with that name?..Sharon.corbet ( /photos/scorbet/ ) and B-59 ( /photos/66311327@N05/ ) were quick to confirm that this house is now part of St. Joseph's Secondary School ( http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=MA®no=31209077# ) . Prior to that, according to dearbhaile2 ( /photos/92955144@N02/ ) and guliolopez ( /photos/20727502@N00/ ) , it was associated with the Lords Lucan (yes, those Lords Lucan). And finally, while we had almost diluted our tea with tears of lament for the loss of the OSI historic maps website, Niall McAuley ( /photos/gnmcauley/ ) has offered a replacement - which has helped us map this image accurately ( http://map.geohive.ie/mapviewer.html?webmap=d341dfca6a634588be11005a770686a1 ) . Thanks all!...Photographer: Robert French..Collection: Lawrence Photograph Collection ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Collection/vtls000313414 ) ..Date: Catalogue range c.1865-1914..NLI Ref: L_CAB_07317 ( vtls000333018 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
