CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – The second stage of a Delta IV is suspended over its transporter in the Horizontal Integration Facility at Launch Complex 37 on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. This United Launch Alliance Delta IV rocket is the vehicle slated to launch GOES-P, the latest Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite developed by NASA for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- In the Space Station Processing Facility, technicians watch closely as the U.S. Laboratory Destiny rotates. A component of the International Space Station, Destiny is scheduled to fly on mission STS-98 in early 2001. During the mission, the crew will install the Lab during a series of three space walks. The STS-98 mission will provide the station with science research facilities and expand its power, life support and control capabilities. The U.S. Lab module continues a long tradition of microgravity materials research, first conducted by Skylab and later Shuttle and Spacelab missions. Destiny is expected to be a major feature in future research, providing facilities for biotechnology, fluid physics, combustion, and life sciences research. KSC00pp0798

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- The Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) Dragon capsule is placed atop its cargo ring inside a processing hangar at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on Nov. 16. Later, the combination will be attached to the top of a Falcon 9 rocket on Space Launch Complex-40 for the company's next demonstration test flight for NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) program. SpaceX is one of two companies under contract with NASA to take cargo to the International Space Station. NASA is working with SpaceX to combine its last two demonstration flights, and if approved, the Falcon 9 rocket would launch the Dragon capsule to the orbiting laboratory for a docking within the next several months. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- The Joint Airlock Module is suspended by an overhead crane in the Operations and Checkout Building before being moved and placed into the payload canister for transfer to the Space Station Processing Facility. There the module will undergo more preflight processing for the STS-104 mission scheduled for launch aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis May 17, 2001. The Joint Airlock Module is the gateway from which crew members aboard the International Space Station will enter and exit the 470-ton orbiting research facility KSC-00pp1502

Summary

LDEF (Prelaunch) The LDEF structure is shown mounted on the LDEF Assembly and Transport System in Building 1250 at the Langley Research Center (LaRC), Hampton Virginia, during pre-ship wiring checks. The structure is a welded / bolted assembly fab- ricated from aluminum alloy 6061-T6 extrusions, forgings, tubing and plate materials and assembled with stainless steel fasteners. The eight (8) internal tubular diagonals between the center ring structure and the two end frames provide torsional stiffness to the structure.
