Lees Ferry - National Parks Gallery
Summary
Inscribed rock at the foot of Spencer Trail Spencer Trail was built in 1910 by Charles Spencer's crew. It followed the cliff face north of the Colorado River and was constructed using picks, shovels, and crowbars. The trail leads to coal deposits that were hauled to the ferry site by pack mule and used to fuel the mining machinery. One report claims that the trail followed the route of a former Native Americn trail. Another account suggests that Spencer's mule Pete marked the trail alignment after Spencer gave him instruction on what to do. Lees Ferry and Lonely Dell Ranch Landscape
