Letter from Elizur Wright, New York, to Amos Augustus Phelps, 1834 Feb[ruary] 20.
Summary
Elizur Wright Jr. writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding Phelps' suggestions for his appointment as agent to the American Anti-Slavery Society. His suggestions include visiting Southern cities as "preparatory" to his work. He writes of the progress of the society and of the letters they have obtained from Southerners, "some breathing..revenge-some justifying Slavery from Scripture & some admitting the truth of all our principles but advocating gradualism as the only practical scheme."
