Letter from Henry Egbert Benson, Providence, [Rhode Island], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1833 March 23d
Summary
Henry Egbert Benson writes to William Lloyd Garrison sending him money to pay for 8 subscriptions to the Liberator and 3 to the Abolitionist. Benson then mentions a "long letter from Friend [Arnold] Buffum .. respecting a base falsehood implicating his character which is in circulation here & other places." He describes another letter, from his sister, telling of Prudence Crandall's stay with her in Brooklyn, Connecticut and informs Garrison of his receipt of "500 copies of Stuarts immediate emancipation." Benson says they "will do much good, many have called for them" and shares his belief that should the British end slavery in the West Indies, "What a blow to American slavery should the bill pass!"
