Letter from Orson S. Murray, Montpelier, [Vt.], to William Lloyd Garrison, October 11. 1834

Orson S. Murray informs William Lloyd Garrison that since requesting a visit from George Thompson, the Vermont Anti-Slavery Society found itself in debt, owing to expenses incurred in circulating Henry Clarke Wright's pamphlet and James G. Birney's letter. Murray writes that accordingly the society must regretfully countermand its request for Thompson's visit, and requests that Garrison refrain from showing this letter to Thompson. Murray informs Garrison that two Congregational clergymen have renounced the American Colonization Society and have commenced working for the abolitionist cause.
