Arthur Henri Poole - Lord Muskerry's boat - and a wooden horse!

description

Summary

Yet another Poole commission to shoot a crew on a boat - but this time complete with the owners. It all looks very nautical and ship shape, but the presence of women on board would have appalled many old time sailors!..The two main subjects here (the boat and the people) are confirmed (by the title and the labels on the crew's hats) to be the schooner "Wildflower ( https://www.clydeships.co.uk/view.php?a1PageSize=50&a1Page=83&ref=7247&vessel=WILD+FLOWER ) ", and the family of its owner, the 4th Baron Muskerry ( http://www.thepeerage.com/p31652.htm#i316517 ) . The more brightly dressed lady (with her hand on the tiller) is unknown, but the others are almost certainly the baron (Hamilton), the baroness (Flora), their three eldest boys (Hamilton, Robert & Matthew), and young daughter (also Flora). Based on the ages of the kids, and the fact that they only acquired the yacht in 1883, it seems likely that this was captured in the mid-1880s. While location is not 100% confirmed, it seems most likely that this image was captured in Waterford.......Photographer: A. H. Poole..Collection: Poole Photographic Studio, Waterford ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Search/Results?lookfor=A.H.+Poole&type=Author&sort=title&view=grid ) ..Date: Catalogue range c.1901-1954. Likely mid-1880s (boat/kids)..NLI Ref: POOLEWP 0104 ( vtls000589918 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
