MacGregor is retired after 25 years of service. Between multiple deployments to Iraq, she played a key role in the construction of the air station and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Headquarters Building after a fire destroyed the original building. “The thing that got me through the long hard years is my obligation I had to the Marines to the left and right of me,” said MacGregor. “One of the best parts of the Marine Corps is that you don’t have to try to do everything on your own. You can ask someone, ‘hey, does this sound right,’ and someone will help.” As MacGregor was giving her thanks and saying goodbye, her daughter, Emily, 20, was tackling the challenges of the Crucible at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C.
