Maness hands over CLB-3 sergeant major reins to Smith

Lutz III, the battalion commanding officer, during a relief and appointment ceremony at Dewey Square here, Tuesday. “It’s important to the battalion to do this kind of event publicly to recognize the new leader we’re about to receive and the old leader that we’re about to say farewell to,” Lutz said. “Sgt. Maj. Smith is joining our battalion after a very storied career including serving here at Kaneohe Bay with 3rd Radio Battalion. I’m more than confident that he will do an exceptional job and bring his wisdom, insight and energy to the ranks and bring this battalion to the next level.” Smith’s personal awards include a Bronze Star and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a gold star. Maness will assume the post of installation sergeant major at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point.
