Summary

FORT HUNTER LIGGETT, Calif. (Apr. 21, 2009) Marine Capt. Tony Friel, center, discusses the use of a terrain model for patrols with Chief Steelworker Robert Taylor, left, during Operation Bearing Duel 2009. A terrain model allows Seabees to more effectively plan for patrols by recreating the physical characteristic of an area in a miniature version. This effectively gives patrol planners the ability to predict possible ambushes based on terrain layout. Bearing Duel is an annual field training exercise to test the battalion's ability to deploy to a contingency environment.
