description

Summary

Marines with Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron 466, externally lift a UH-1Y Venom, after it made a precautionary landing off a beach near Ikei-Jima, Japan, Jan. 8, 2018. January 7, the crew of a UH-1Y Venom landed on the beach after indications of the main rotor moving at too high a speed during a scheduled flight off the coast of Okinawa. During the incident, there were no injuries to personnel nor was there damage to properties. With all aircraft, thorough and consistent pilot training is the best way to ensure aviation safety, and the Marine Corps maintains that high standard without compromise. The Marine Corps rigorously investigates all aviation incidents to identify the causes, learn from them, and rectify the problems that occurred. Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 and HMH-466 are currently deployed under the unit deployment program with Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing.
