North Persian Gulf (Jun. 13, 2005) Master-at-arms assigned to Mobile Security Detachment Two Five (MSD-25) stand watch on one end of the Al Basrah oil terminal (ABOT) in the coastal waters of Iraq, while the guided missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) sails in the background. Normandy is currently conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO). MSO sets the condition for security and stability in the maritime environment complementing the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. MSO also denies international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons, or other material.
