Members of the California National Guard Counterdrug
Summary
Members of the California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, along with Border Patrol agents, wrap-up inspecting a vehicle. While the secondary search yielded negative results, imagery provided by the use of a large scale imagery system identified possible abnormalities in the back of the truck that required further inspection. Counterdrug personnel operate MVISs at checkpoints throughout Southern California. A Guardsman operating the MVIS software scans numerous vehicles each day and must quickly identify signs of potentially illegal or dangerous goods. The machines are highly mobile—service members can react to a call to change locations and be on the road within 15 minutes. National Guard personnel complete a two week, hands on training course on the proper operation and capabilities of the MVIS system. (U.S. Army National Guard Photo/ Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin M.
