Summary
SEATTLE (apr. 19, 2005) A puff of steam leaks out of Mount Saint Helens as a Coast Guard Auxiliary plane carrying Rear Adm. Jeffrey Garrett, Thirteenth District Commander, flies past. The volcano last erupted May 18, 1980, toppling trees and shooting ash into the Columbia River. Deep draft vessels found navigating the river nearly impossible because of the debri.
