Arthur Henri Poole - Mr. Cullinan MP, wedding group, large
Summary
Another fine wedding photograph for you all today. The catalogue date suggests 1913 and there is no doubt that the fashion on show is consistent with that. My five year old nephew saw this photo on my computer and he asked did the man marry the two women, they are both the same? The innocence of youth!..Thanks to John Spooner ( /photos/johnspooner/ ) , we have a contemporaneous account of the marriage of John Cullinan MP ( John_Cullinan ) and Rita O'Meara ( http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tipperary/Caher/Newtownadam/1708022/ ) from April 1913. He tells is that it took place at Ardfinnan Parish Church, with the bride's sister Minnie as bridesmaid, a Mr R Burke as best man, and bride given away by her brother James O'Meara. The bouquet is seemingly of "white heather, lily-of-the-valley, and white roses". The many clergymen present (most of which are clearly pictured here) included the Canon Sheedy, who performed the ceremony, and at whose house the wedding breakfast took place. That seems to be where this picture was taken - with sharon.corbet ( /photos/scorbet/ ) helping corroberate and map the image.......Photographer: A. H. Poole..Collection: Poole Photographic Studio, Waterford ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Search/Results?lookfor=A.H.+Poole&type=Author&sort=title&view=grid ) ..Date: 2 April 1913..NLI Ref: POOLEWP 2445a ( vtls000592880 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
